Celebration of World
Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) at USTM.

The department of Business
Administration is going to observe World Consumer Right’s
Day today. 15th March is observed as World Consumer Rights
Day (WCRD), an annual occasion for celebration and
solidarity within the international consumer movement. It
marks the date in 1962 when President John F Kennedy first
outlined the definition of Consumer Rights. World Consumer
Rights Day (WCRD) is an opportunity to promote the basic
rights of all consumers, demanding that those rights are
respected and protected, and a chance to protest against the
market abuses and social injustices which undermine those
rights. On the occasion, Mr. Dilip Jain, Advocate,
Commissioner of Civil Court, Guwahati and Ms. Rita Majumder,
Advocate, Mediator, Guwahati High Court had delivered
lectures on the significance of the day, consumers' rights
as enumerated in Consumer Rights Protection Act of 1986, and
different NGOs that work for protecting consumer rights.
