BOOK FAIR OF CENTENARY
CELEBRATION OF ASSAM SAHITYA SABHA INAUGURATED BY MAHBUBUL
HOQUE

“To bring together the cultural
integrity and diversity of the North East India literary
research has a very important role”, said Mahbubul Hoque,
Chancellor of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya
during the Centenary Celebration of Assam Sahitya Sabha held
at Sibsagar on the 8th of February, 2017 where he was
invited to inaugurate the Book Fair of the Sabha in presence
of Shri Lila Mahanta, former President, Assam Sahitya Sabha,
Shri Abani Mohan Saharia, General Secretary (I/C), Assam
Sahitya Sabha and a host of other eminent dignitaries..
While addressing the august gathering, Shri Mahbubul Hoque
announced that USTM will very shortly establish a Centre for
Literary & Cultural Studies which will collaborate with
different literary organizations like Assam Sahitya Sabha to
carry out various research activities to preserve and
promote literatures of North East and also with neighbouring
countries to bring about unity and integrity through
cultural harmony. The Centre will offer Fellowships to carry
out research on the works of literary stalwarts of the
region. The Centre will also carry out research on spiritual
leaders of all communities of North East who have
contributed to the communal integrity and harmony. The
University is already carrying out research on the works of
Dr Bhupen Hazarika under the guidance of Prof Amarjyoti
Choudhury, former Pro-VC, Tezpur University and Chair
Professor of Applied Sc, USTM.
