First ever NE College Magazine Competition's results
announced

GUWAHATI, JUNE 29: The results of the 1st All North East
College Magazine Competition organised by the Publication Cell
of the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM)
were announced at a press meet organised for the purpose at
Guwahati Press Club on Monday.
Addressing the press meet, Prof PG Rao, Vice Chancellor USTM,
said, “USTM is constantly engaged in achieving excellence in
the field of education. With this in view, the University has
been organising NE Graduate Congress for students, as well as
Teachers’ and Principals’ Congress every year. From this year,
we started this annual college magazine competition to bring
in the much needed improvement in overall quality of our
college magazines.”
Dr Alaka Desai Sarma, Dean, Student Welfare USTM and a member
of the Jury for the College Magazine Competition, informed the
press that even though this was the first of its kind
competition organised in the region, the response has been
very encouraging. More than 70 entries from Assam, Manipur,
Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura were received. She said, “The
quality of our college magazines is improving and with a
little bit of guidance and support, they can achieve
excellence very easily.”
Nurul Laskar, Chairperson of the Jury, announced the prizes as
follows. Magazines of College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara,
Guwahati; Cotton College, Guwahati; and Doom Dooma College
were adjudged as the three best entries in the competition.
The editorial committees of these magazines would receive a
desktop each besides certificates and mementoes. Other awards
announced were - Best Cover Page: College of Veterinary
Science, Khanapara, Guwahati; Best Woman Editor: Linamoni
Mahan, Moran Girls College; Best Article written by a Girl
Student: Priyanka Basumatary, B Barooah College, Guwahati;
Best Article (General): Raktava Kumar, B Barooah College,
Guwahati.
Special Jury Awards went to: Buddha Bhanu College, Shillong,
Meghalaya; Immanuel College, Dimapur, Nagaland; Holy Cross
College, Agartala, Tripura; Silapather College, Assam; and Al
Ajmiatul Islamia, Badarpur, Assam.
The other members of the Jury for selection of the best
entries were PJ Baruah, Executive Editor, The Assam Tribune;
Anisul Hoque, Managing Director, Brand Resonance; and Fiedel
War, former Chairman of Meghalaya Public Service Commission.
The awards will be handed over to the winners at the North
East Graduate Congress to be held at USTM on August 8 & 9,
2015.
