Sudip Dutta Conferred Hon. D.Litt. by Governor at USTM

SudipDuttawas conferred the Degree of Hon. D.Litt. by
ShriTathagata Roy, Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya and
Visitor, USTM at the University of Science & Technology,
Meghalaya on11 Februaryin the presence of ShriLakhmenRymbui,
Minister of Education, Meghalaya; MrMahbubulHoque,
Chancellor, USTM; Lt Gen ZamirUddin Shah, Pro Chancellor,
USTM, Dr P K Goswami, Vice Chancellor, USTM, apart from
others.
Receiving the award, MrDutta said that he was deeply
honoured to receive the Degree and he accepts it with all
humility. SudipDutta is the Founder and Chairman of Ess Dee
Aluminium Ltd., India. Ess Dee Aluminium is India's largest
manufacturer of Aluminium foil based packaging material. Two
of his major achievements for the company include the
listing of Ess Dee Aluminium in the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)
and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India in 2006. The
second feather on his cap was the historical takeover of
India Foils Ltd. in 2008, which was then India's leading
foil manufacturer and exporter of aluminium foil, set up in
1960. In 2009 Forbes India, bestowed upon him the title of
"The Wrapper Tycoon".
Born in 1972 to a family of four brothers and two sisters,
in the industrial township of Durgapur in West Bengal,
SudipDutta moved to Mumbai from his hometown, Durgapur in
West Bengal in the early 90's. His entrepreneurial journey
started in 1991 with 12 employees with a pouching unit for
making sachets used for packing oral re-hydration powders by
local pharmaceutical companies. In the midst of his quests,
it dawned on him that the packaging industry is virtually
recession proof. Thus began his journey in the field of
providing end-to-end packaging solutions to the
Pharmaceutical and Food / FMCG sectors.
His absolute customer and market focus both in word and
deed, his alignment with and dedication to the
pharmaceutical industry, gradually paved the way for
increasing the number of clients, the volume and overall
turnover of the Group. One satisfied business house led to
the next as his reputation continued to grow. MrDutta
treated his strategic partners as unique entities who had
come to depend on him, he had a definite role to fulfill,
and that was the mission. Manufacturing locations engulfing
the various pharmaceutical hubs also helped obviate the
physical barriers of distance and contributed to the ever
increasing asset base of the organisation.
His role today is divided between handling the company's
international business operations being based out of
Singapore, and playing the role of innovator and mentor to
his core team. He is also responsible for the overall
strategies of the Company's operations including R&D,
Innovation, Sales and Production. In his current role, he is
also concentrating keenly on growing and increasing the
total share of exports both in terms of revenue and reach
(currently exporting to about 50 countries and contributing
approximately to 10 per cent of the overall revenue), and
has invested substantially in technology and plant
upgradation, thus ensuring that his vision is met within the
next five years.
Mr Dutta has over two decades of experience in various
facets of the aluminium foil and packaging business, and
also enjoys a commendable reputation amongst his customers
in India and abroad. |
