Gandhian style of teaching most effective for kids: Prof

December, 2018: Noted Gandhian Prof Ashok Bhargav from
Banaras Hindu University today took an enlightening session
at the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya where
he spoke on the topic “Learning from Gandhi” and said that
teachers and educationists of present day have to learn a
lot from the views of MK Gandhi on new education or ‘nai
talim’.
Addressing a host of university teachers who are also
involved in the neighbourhood village adoption programme of
USTM, Prof Bhargav said that Gandhi’s concept of imparting
education and learning to children and others has proven
scientific ground and his methodology is being practiced in
many foreign countries, though it is not getting required
importance in Indian education system. He said that students
should be able to acquire skills of self-learning, they must
start with practical first and theory classes later. “The
two important aspects of education by Gandhi were:
Self-reliance and Imaginative thinking and action”, he
added.
The talk was followed by an interactive session on Gandhian
ways of education.Dr. Lata Shah, a Gandhian from Banaras
Hindu University also participated in the interactive
programme. Earlier, the welcome address was made by Prof
(Dr) Alaka Sarma, Pro Vice Chancellor, USTM and she
introduced the subject of the talk to the participants. |
