Assam Education Minister Commended USTM Initiatives

Ninth Mile, Ri Bhoi, August
13, 2018: The Education Minister of Assam, Shri
Siddhartha Bhattacharya has lauded USTM and the University’s
founder Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque for his relentless effort
to fulfill a dream of building a world class university. Mr
Bhattacharya was addressing the Orientation Programme 2018
on 11th August at USTM.
The Education Minister congratulated the management of USTM
for the wonderful step of the University of celebrating the
success of 27 NET/ SLET/GATE qualified students of USTM for
2018 by giving back their entire course fees along with
admission fees as per its ‘Pay Back Policy’. “I have visited
and seen many private and government institution in Assam
and elsewhere. But for the first time I have seen that a
private university is returning not only course fees, but
also admission fees to the students for their academic
success. This is a unique feature I have noted”, he said. He
said that USTM is growing step by step and that he was
impressed by the turn out of students in his maiden visit to
USTM.
Appreciating the efforts of the founding Chancellor of USTM,
Shri Bhattacharya said that USTM has been a dream of Shri
Mahbubul Hoque. “Over the years, I have noted with
satisfaction and happiness that there is one individual who
has not only a dream but also has the capacity to turn it
into a reality. His journey began with one computer and four
students, but today it is a 5000 strong student base with
more than 200 faculty members as well as hundreds of guest
teachers”, he added.
He also said that among the NET qualified awardees in USTM,
he has seen a mini North East India. “There is
representation of all ethnic groups and states of North East
and this is what makes this university unique. Education
does not merely qualify one to get jobs; education is what
moulds you as a human being. The location of USTM itself is
a conglomeration of diversity of two states—Meghalaya and
Assam. And being at the boundary, it has been able to
develop its unique culture and student community”, he
expressed.
It must be mentioned here that on the occasion of USTM’s
Orientation Programme, Assam Education Minister Siddhartha
Bhattacharya was the Chief Guest and handed over the rewards
to the brilliant students in the presence of more than 2000
newly admitted students at USTM. Prof. Mihir Kanti Chaudhuri,
former Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University and Advisor
(Education), Government of Assam and M Hoque, Chancellor of
USTM addressed the participants apart from other dignitaries. |
