- Mahbubul Hoque addressed US based NRIs at Chicago
Mr. Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, University of
Science and Technology, Meghalaya urged upon the Aligarh
Alumni living in USA, Canada and other countries to build
educational institutions in India and carry forward the
Aligarh movement as envisioned by Sir Syed Ahmed and repay
their debt to their Alma mater and the country. Mr. Hoque made
this appeal to Aligarh fraternity while delivering a talk on
the topic “Aligarh Alumni and Institution building” at the
thirteenth convention of the Federation of Aligarh Alumni
Associations, (FAAA) held in Chicago,USA from 20th to 22nd
June 2014. Elaborating on the topic Mr. Hoque said that
Aligarh alumni living in USA, Canada and other countries are
high achievers in life and have brought laurels to the their
University and India. Now time has come for them to contribute
to the cause of education back home and carry the Aligarh
movement forward. Mr. Hoque suggested that Aligarh alumni
living in USA may convert their Indian homes which are lying
unused most of the time ,into class rooms and open one class
of nursery with students from neighboring areas with one
teacher and go on adding one class each year and in course of
next few years it will be a full-fledged school contributing
to the society in perpetuity even when they are no more ,the
way Aligarh Muslim University is contributing to the
development of the country even when the founders of AMU are
no more. One must recall how Sir Syed had started Anglo
Oriental College in a humble way and now it has become one of
the largest university in the world.
the Aligarh alumni NRIs, living in posh localities of USA are
emotionally connected to their roots, their children are now
American without much link with India, by setting up
educational institutions at their birth place, they will also
ensure a link of their children to their roots in India
besides serving their community and fulfilling the
expectations of their neighbours. He also suggested that if
they are not able to do it they can support the educational
institutions in India set up by different entrepreneurs and
become a facilitator in building institutions.
The FAAA had invited Mr. Mahbubul Hoque to
attend the thirteenth convention as distinguished guest. Many
delegates from across USA, Canada & India and other countries
participated in the Chicago convention. This was a gathering
of highly accomplished academicians, technocrats and
entrepreneurs-the alumni of Aligarh.
All the members appreciated the effort of Mr.
Hoque in building institutions including the university with
humble beginning and felicitated him with citation.
The Chicago convention gave Mr. Hoque an
opportunity to meet Aligarh alumni who have been working as
distinguished scientists, professors & heads of department at
different USA universities like Michigan State University ,
Harvard University ,University of Houston ,North East Ohio
Medical University ,Georgetown University Medical Centre,
Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science, Eastern
Michigan University USA for long time . At the Chicago
convention Mr.Hoque also met the senior professors of the King
Abdul Aziz University, King Fahad Medical Research Center and
Umma-Al-Qura University, Makkah, from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Besides he met several presidents of companies, CEOs,
Scientists working in R & D sectors, working professionals in
IT industry, US based Indian Entrepreneurs who also assured
for support in possible areas for the growth of USTM.
They assured all possible support and guidance
to USTM which will include specialized lectures to students,
faculties & scholars; creating avenues for students; short
term training in USA universities, fellowship in innovative
research, placement services to eligible candidates and
eventually collaboration in specific areas. They also assured
to visit USTM during their trip to India to interact with
students & faculty. Hopefully within short period of time USTM
will be able to get association of many resource persons from
different fields and development will take place accordingly.
A team of four members will visit USTM in the month of October
2014 to understand the strength of USTM and accordingly all
possible assistance will be extended for ERDF and USTM.
The USTM, the only university in the NE region
dedicated to Science and Technology has the vision to become
one of the premier universities in the country with a target
of making it a world class university within ten years time
and visit of its Chancellor, Mr. Mahbubul Hoque to USA is a
step towards this direction.
