USTM Chancellor calls
on Governor of Meghalaya

SHILLONG, NOVEMBER 3, 2017: Mahbubul
Hoque, Chancellor, University of Science & Technology
Meghalaya (USTM) called on Ganga Prasad, Governor of
Meghalaya at the Raj Bhawan in Shillong on Friday. Hoque
welcomed the Governor to the state of Meghalaya on behalf of
the students and faculty of RIST & USTM, two premier
educational institutions run by the ERD Foundation in the
state of Meghalaya.
Since the Governor also happens to be the ex officio Visitor
to USTM, the Chancellor gave an update to him recalling the
history of the institution, its various achievements over
the years, as well as plans and programmes for the coming
years. A video that showcased the activities of the various
departments of USTM and visits of prominent personalities
such as late President APJ Abdul Kalam and Nobel laureate
Kailash Satyarthi to the University was shown to the
Governor which he witnessed with keen interest.
In course of a discussion that followed, Hoque informed the
Governor that near about 4,700 students are pursuing various
courses at RIST and USTM today. Even though the institutions
had a humble beginning under the aegis of ERDF, today the
Foundation is one of the most vibrant and fastest expanding
education networks of the region.
While the Governor appreciated the progress of USTM and its
contribution to the society, he requested Hoque to explore
the possibility of serving the interior areas of Meghalaya
in a bigger way in the coming days. Hoque informed that
service to the entire North East in general and Meghalaya in
particular is a priority before the University. He also
informed the Governor that more than 1,000 students from
Meghalaya are presently studying in USTM.
Hoque requested the Governor to visit the University at the
earliest and the Governor was kind enough to consider the
same favourably. DK Sarma, Senior Professor, Department of
Zoology, USTM and NI Laskar, Director (Corporate
Communication), ERDF accompanied the Chancellor during the
visit. |
