 “USTM is becoming Centre of Excellence" Dr Mukul Sangam CM Meghalaya
 

 

USTM, October10, 2017: “The University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya(USTM) the premier institution in Meghalaya is exploring the state’s education sector and established a centre of excellence in learning, which is empowering the youth not just Meghalaya but of the entire Northeast” said the Chief Minister of Meghalya, Dr Mukul Sangma while attending a national conference on the theme “Think Global Act Local: Contemporary Sustainable Business Practices & Development “at USTM on October 10, 2017. The two-day conference organized jointly by USTM and the North-Eastern Management Association (NEMA) concluded on 11th October 2017.
In his chief guest’s address, Dr Mukul Sangma, expressed great pleasure to be at USTM and be a part of the National Conference. He said, ‘I am delighted to learn that a state of the art auditorium is coming up shortly at the University campus and I am sure that with this, Meghalaya will become a favourite destination for both national and international events.’ He further stated that institutions can play a big role in attracting interest from world over. Hence, he said, the governments need to encourage the institutions. He, on his part, assured all support and cooperation to developmental efforts in the field of education by USTM.
The Chief Minister, who has visited the USTM after nearly five years, was all praise for the university and assured its students that the State government will submit a proposal to North Eastern Council (NEC) to finance North East Hostel for boys and girls and an exclusive hostel for the students of Meghalaya at the university. While praising the effort of USTM in organizing the conference he said that having the conference in this part of the country would pave way for bigger conferences and attract intellectuals, researchers and academicians to North East. Seeing the existence of different departments providing professional education at USTM the Chief Minister said that, “there is a need for working on the mindset of the young population and indicate to them the opportunities in different sectors and encourage them to set up enterprise. We have to show our youngsters viable option in entrepreneurship”.
While delivering his speech as the Chief Guest of the Conference, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr Mukul Sangma, lauded USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Haque saying, “financial institutions should look at education as a viable and sustainable space for promoting entrepreneurship. Hoque is a role model for us, whom we can showcase as an academician, an entrepreneur and who motivates others”. He expressed his hope that with the able guidance of a Chancellor like Shri Mahbubul Hoque USTM will achieve greater heights in the days to come and will be one of the best universities in the world.
