National Sports Day
Celebrated at USTM

USTM, 29th August, 2017: The Sports Forum of University of
Science & Technology, Meghalaya has celebrated the National
Sports Day 2017 with a daylong program on August 29, 2017.
“USTM RUN” a marathon competition and felicitation of
renowned sports journalists were organized to mark the day.
Shri Manish Deka, the second Mountaineer of Assam who has
scaled the Mount Everest was present as a Guest of Honor in
the felicitation ceremony held at techno city, USTM in
presence of galaxy of sports journalists from both print and
electronic media of Assam and North East.
Senior Sports Journalists like, Shri Pabitra Gogoi, from
Assam Tribune; Udai Borgohain, Sports Journalist, Axomiya
Khabor; Imtiaz Ahmed, Sports Journalist, the Telegraph;
Niloy Bhattacharjee, Bureau Chief News 18; Sunil Bora,
Journalist News LIVE; Udai Borgohain, Sports Journalist,
Axomiya Khabor; Pulin Saha, Senior Reporter, Axomiya
Pratidin; Jayanta Das, Reporter Dy365; and Partho
Chakraborty, Senior Sports Journalist, The Sentinel.
The program was organized with a aim to create enthusiasm
for sports among the students and hope in future we will
develop more infrastructures for the promotion of various
sports events in our university, said the Pro Vice
Chancellor Dr R K Sharma in his address.
In his speech Shri Pabitra Gogoi, senior sports journalist
of Assam Tribune urged the students to take time out from
their studies and take part in different sports activities.
While addressing the audience Shri Udai Borgohain of Axomiya
Khabor stressed on the importance of physical education in
academic institutions. He congratulated the authorities for
organizing the program.
In the same occasion the winners of USTM RUN, the marathon
competition were awarded. Among the girls Azilian Dimusha Ch
Marak from BALLB 5th Semester begged the first prize where
Amardeep Boro, from 3rd Semester M A Sociology begged the
first prize among the boys. Around 500 students from USTM
have taken part in the marathon run competition, which was
flagged off in the wee hours of the day by Mr Abu Nasim, the
well known cricketer from Assam.
