• Inauguration of Boys’ Hostel Canteen : Shri C.V.S. Reddy (IPS), Superintendent of  Police, Ri-Bhoi have inaugurated the 100 seater Dining Hall  of New Boys Hostel at University campus on18th December, 2013 in presence of M. Hoque Chancellor, USTM  and other high officials of the University. After the inauguration, Shri Reddy have delivered a talk on “Career & Competitive Examination” to the students of the University and encourage them for the same.
 
Workshop on Research Methodology: USTM have organized a 10-day Research Methodology and Computer Application Course in Social Sciences funded by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, from December 9-18, 2013. Around 30 young scholars of different universities of North East have participated in the course. The programme was inaugurated by Dr AC Bhagabati, Former VC, Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar in presence of Prof. Partha Ghosh, retired Professor of JNU and currently Nehru Fellow at the Nehru Memorial Library and Museum. A number of well-known resource persons, namely, Dr. Baniprasanna Misra, retired Professor at the University of North Bengal; Dr. Archana Upadhyay, a Commonwealth Scholar at Kings College, London and Fulbright Scholar at the Stanford University and currently Associate  Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University; Dr. R.K. Satpathy of NEHU, Shillong; Dr. S.K. Das and Dr. Monirul Hussain of Gauhati University; Dr. Sukanya Sharma of IIT Guwahati; Dr. Ratna Bhuyan of IIE; Dr. Meghali Senapati of Tata Institute of Social Science delivered lectures as resource persons.
 
Inauguration of Pascal Suchiang Girls’ Hostel : Dr. Pooja Pandey (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya, have inaugurated the newly constructed Girls’ Hostel of USTM within the campus on 7th December, 2013 in a colourful function. The hostel is named after late Pascal Suchiang, a renowned social worker of the greater Kling area who had contributed a lot for the development of the University. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mrs. Shieamon Kharjarin, wife of late Pascal Suchiang, Mr. M. Hoque, Chancellor of USTM, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis, Vice Chancellor and other high officials of the University. The girl hostel is equipped with all the modern facilities & amenities including recreational activities. After the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Pooja Pandey had also interacted with the students of the University & motivated them for different competitive examinations.
 
Visit of Swami Agnivesh : The renowned social activist and social reformer Swami Agnivesh visited the USTM campus on 6th December, 2013. During his visit he also interacted with the students & faculties of USTM. While delivering his speech on “Value system  in education and and role of the society”, Swami Agnivesh recalled and narrated interesting episodes of his early childhood and his adolescent period and the process of his evolution from intellect of common man to higher level of spirituality.
 
Workshop on ESDM : RIST organized a day long workshop on Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM), sponsored by Computer Society of India on 2nd November, 2013. Col. Prashant Mathur, Circle Business Head of VION Network Ltd conduced the first session of the workshop on the topic “Importance of Network in Telecom Industry” as well as the scope of electronic and computer engineers in telecom industry and urged the students to develop the qualities required by the industries. The second session was conducted by conducted by D. Ranganadham, Deputy Director General of Doordarshan and AIR. His elaborate explanations about the satellite communication made the students clear about how satellite communications overcome the barriers of limited communications.
 
Inauguration of City Office at Shillong : The Shillong City office of ERDF was  inaugurated  on3rd October, 2013  at Ri-do-ria complex , M. G. Road, near Shillong High Court, Shillong. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. D. D. Lapang, former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, as the Chief Guest, Dr. M. A. Lyngdoh, Minister of Science and Technology, Urban Affairs, Meghalaya and Shri Manas Choudhuri, former Education Minister, Meghalaya, as the guests of Honour and host of other dignitaries. The office has been inaugurated for smooth co-ordination with Government of Meghalaya and disseminating information to students of Meghalaya.
 
Celebration of Wildlife Week : The Wildlife Week-2013 was celebrated from 1st Oct-7th Oct,13 by the students of USTM. As part of the celebration students have participated in a mass rally organized by the Forest Department. To create awareness among the general public the University students have also performed a street play in different places of the city.
 
Visit of Prof. David Reid Syiemlieh : Prof. David R. Syiemlieh Member, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) have visited the University campus on 27th Sept,13 and interacted with the students to inspire them to take civil services as their career.  Prof Syiemlieh, also a renowned academician is the former Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh. He had also served as Lecturer at St. Edmund's College, Shillong & as a Professor at NEHU. He has authored and edited several books and publications and had been awarded Senior Fulbright Fellowship in the year 1999. Speaking to a group of more than 200 students from various departments of USTM, Prof. Syiemlieh said “Cracking an UPSC examination is not a Herculean task, one just need to  be  focused in his life and plan their moves properly”. Former honorary director of ICSSR-NERC, Prof Syiemlieh, elaborated the group of students and faculties about various aspects of UPSC including its history, mandates, functions, recruitment procedures etc.
 
Scholastic Discourse on “Life & Creation of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika” : USTM organised a Scholastic Discourse on Life and Creation of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, on 7th September, 2013 in NEDFi House Auditorium, Dispur on the occasion of  87th Birthday of the great artist. ERDF had announced two research fellowships on the great legend just after his demise.    The Research Scholars Prasanta Jyoti Baruah, Executive Editor, The Assam Tribune and Gitali Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Nitaipukhuri College, Sivasagar and freelance journalist Pramod Sharma discussed and elaborated on the areas of research. The Scholastic Discourse was inaugurated by Shri Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary, former Governor of Meghalaya. The key note address was delivered by Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhary, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Tezpur University. In the beginning of the programme the students of the university performed Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's song titled, “Manuhe Manuhor Babe” in Assamese, Bengali, Khasi and Bodo languages.
 
Orientation-2013 of USTM: The University had organized its 3rd Orientation Programme for the new academic session on 24th August, 2013. The Inaugural Session of the day long Orientation Programme was graced by Justice I. A. Ansari, Judge, Gauhati High Court; Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Pro-VC, Tezpur University; Prof. Sukumar Nandi, Deputy Director, IIT, Guwahati and Shri Sandipan Nair, DGM (Marketing), Dalmia Cement. All the dignitaries had expressed their satisfaction on the infrastructure created by the university and appreciated the visionary steps taken by the management. After the Inaugural Session the Orientation Programme continued in parallel academic sessions by academicians from different institutions of higher education. Some of the prominent academicians were:

• Seminar on Interest Free Banking : USTM organized a Seminar on Interest free banking on17th August, 2013 where the key note was addressed by Dr Shariq Nisar, Director (Research & Operations), Taqwa Advisory and Sharia Investment Solutions Pvt Ltd. Dr Nisar, who is also a visiting faculty of Islamic Finance at AMU, Aligarh; BSAR University, Chennai; and BSE Institute, interacted with the students, scholars, faculties and members of USTM, Gauhati University, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Planning Commission of Assam and other renowned bodies and institutes based in the region. He is among the senior most professionals of Islamic Finance in India and is closely associated with both the academia as well as the industry and has been offered a one year fellowship by the Harvard University USA to do research on ‘Indian financial regulations’. According to Dr Nisar, Islamic Finance is a trillion dollar plus industry today and is emerging as one of the fastest growing areas of international finance.
 
Panel Discussion at Arunachal Pradesh : USTM in association with Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Arunachal has organized a panel discussion on the theme “Higher Education in Arunachal Pradesh: Problems and Prospects” at Itanagar on 29th July, 2013. The programme was graced by Prof. Tamo Mibang, Vice Chancellor, RGU,  Dr. Joram  Begi,  Director,  Higher  and   Technical Education, AP besides several other dignitaries from the state. Speaking on the occasion Dr Joram Begi said ‘Government alone cannot accomplish such gigantic task, it is the private institution that plays a major role in implementing the work of the government’ appreciating USTM for organizing such discussion, which will create greater awareness among the stake-holders to address the challenges in the higher education in the state. Hundreds of students from various schools of Itanagar including Directors, Principals of various educational institutions and government officials attended the programme. 
 
Interaction with Senior Media Fraternity: More than ten senior journalists from various media houses of the region took part in a programme on July 21st, 2013 to put forward their suggestions for making the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) a people's varsity. Among the Senior Media persons who attended that programme and gave their valuable suggestions towards making USTM a ‘People’s Varsity’ in true sense were P.J. Baruah, Executive Editor, The Assam Tribune; Samudra Gupta Kashyap of Indian Express; N.I. Laskar, Executive Editor, Eastern Chronicle; Nava Thakuria of The Statesman and General Secretary of Guwahati Press Club; Manoj Agasti of Asomiya Pratidin; Jayanta Ghosh of Dainik Jugasankha; Hiren S Saikia of Niyamiya Barta; S N Misra of Dainik Purvoday; F Mazumder of Dainik Jugasankha and others.
 
Felicitation of MBOSE & ICSE Toppers : Over 80 toppers of High School and Higher Secondary School examinations conducted by the Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education (MBOSE) and eight toppers of ICSE examination from the State of Meghalaya were felicitated by ERD Foundation and USTM at Anton Hall, Don Bosco Square in Shillong on 9th July, 2013. Dr DD Lapang, Former Chief Minister, Meghalaya; Dr Don Kupar Roy, Former Chief Minister, Meghalaya; Dr MA Lyngdoh, Minister of Science & Technology, Urban Affairs; Shri Manas Chaudhuri, Former Education Minister; Prof V Shukla, Vice Chancellor, NEHU & Prof P Myrboh, Pro-Vice Chancellor, NEHU were present on the occasion beside other high level officials, intellectuals, students & Media Person.
 
Visit of Prof. Asis Datta : Padma Bhushan Prof. Asis Datta, eminent Scientist and former Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi visited the USTM Campus on 9th July, 2013. He urged upon the students from the North East to work towards the development of agriculture and farm products to see their respective state reach the zenith of prosperity. He spoke extensively on the need of developing genetically modified foods in India. He also interacted with the students, scholars and faculty members and answered various questions regarding Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. Dr. P. K. Seth, CEO, Biotechnology Park, Govt. of UP and former Director, Industrial Toxicology Research Laboratory, Lucknow also visited the University campus along with Prof. Datta.
 
World Environment Day-2013 : The foundation in association with USTM organized an Awareness Rally and Sapling Plantation drive on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2013. Around 250 students with colourful placards and slogans participated in the programme where saplings were planted in 9th mile area and inside the Techno City campus. On the same occasion, Prof. Chandan Mahanta, Deptt. of Civil Engineering, IIT Guwahati and Prof. H. P. Sarma, HOD, Deptt. of Environmental Science, Gauhati University delivered talks & interacted with the students.
 
National Technology Day-2013 : USTM invited Dr. G. Thyagarajan, an international scientist of repute and former Director of CSIR Laboratory as the Chief Guest on the occasion of National Technology Day on 11th May, 2013. He enlightened the gathering with his insightful deliberation on Science & Technology policies of India.
 
Conclave on Minority Educational Institutions of NE India (COMEI) : ERDF conducted a Conclave on Minority Educational Institutions of NE India (COMEI) on 13th April, 2013 to make a network among the institutions for their overall growth. In the conclave, awards like Edu Promo Award, Best Principal Award, and Ideal Teacher Awards were distributed in recognition to their outstanding contribution and also to motivate them for further performance in the field of education.
 
Foundation stone laying of new block by Union Minister : Mr. K. Rahman Khan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Minority Affairs laid the foundation stone of Prof. K. Siddique Hassan Academic Block of USTM on 3rd April, 2013 in presence of Shri Ninong Ering, Hon’ble Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Govt. of India.
 
Community Leadership Award (CLA) - 2013 : The Foundation conferred “Community Leadership Award” (CLA) to 25 persons of Muslim Minority Community to give recognition to their pioneering works in different walks of life and contribution to the development of the society in presence of Mr. K. Rahman Khan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Minority Affairs on 2nd April, 2013.The awardees are -

• The North East Teachers’ Congress (NETC), first of its kind in NE India, followed by a national seminar on “Indian Higher Education in the 21st century: Constraints & Possibilities” was organized by ERDF on 22nd & 23rd March 2013 with an aim to give the College Teachers a platform to discuss various issues, problems and prospects in the context of emerging educational environment in the country. Apart from the seminar, the two days meet provided an opportunity to the teaching fraternity of North East India to express their views on the changing trends of higher education in the various interactive technical sessions and panel discussions. The seminar was graced by Prof. Umesh Ch. Sarma, Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences as Chief Guest. Dignitaries who addressed the gathering were Prof. Sai Prakash & Prof. Ratan Tookey from Osmania University, Dr. N. K. Chaudhury, Dr. Kulendu Pathak, Dr. P.G. Rao, Dr. L. National Science Day-2013 was observed with day long activities on February 28, 2013. Dr. D. N. Buragohain, the Founder Director of IIT, Guwahati was the Chief Guest of the occasion. Other dignitaries present were Dr. N. K. Chaudhury, Mr. M. Hoque, Dr. R. K. Sharma, Deans of various schools of University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya, faculty members & students. A student of RIST- Mr. Kaushalendra Singh was felicitated on the same function for his innovative effort in developing Teleportation Theory.

An International Seminar on “Genres of Belief from a Folkloristic Perspective” was organized by the School of Media Sciences and Cultural Studies of USTM promoted by the Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Estonian and Comparative Folklore, University of Tartu, Estonia on 4th & 5th February, 2013.
 
On the occasion of New Year, ERD Foundation had felicitated the eminent senior personalities of the state of Assam in recognition of their contribution in different fields on 3rd January, 2013.The  senior personalities felicitated were Smt. Nirupama Borgohain, noted writer; Shri Abdul Mazid, eminent film and theatre personality;  Prof Md Taher, retired Prof. Guahati University; Dr.D.N.Barua, President, Guwahati Management Association; Shri Hareswar Talukdar, former Chief Engineer,PWD,Meghalaya; Abdul Khaleque Mazumdar, retired ACS  officer and ex president of Minority Welfare Society; Shri B.K.
