Events and Activities, Year 2008


  • One of the ambitious project was the birth of Central Public School (CPS) on April, 2008 the first school run by ERD Foundation under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), covering seven acres of land adjacent to the national highway in Patharkandi in rural border area of Karimganj District. The primary objective of setting up CPS l was to provide quality education to the deprived and under privileges children of the rural areas at an affordable cost. The school has been able to bring a quantum change in the field of primary and secondary education in the area.
  • Every year the Foundation confers an Award of Excellence to a person who has shown excellence in his /her field of work and/or contributed to societal causes on the occasion of - TECHNO QUEST- the annual event of Central IT College. The ERDF award of excellence for the year 2008 was awarded to Dr Akashitora, renowned, noted film actor and media personality. Dr. Akashitora is a multifaceted personality who has achieved expertise in the field of art and culture. Winner of several National and State level awards in acting Dr. Akashitora has also worked in the field of academics.
  • Prarthana Sabha: ERD Foundation, had also organised a “PRARTHANA SABHA”(All Religion) at the GANESH UDYAN, Dispur at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 5th November, 2008 for eternal peace of the departed souls and speedy safe recovery for the innocent victims of the Serial Blasts that shook Assam on 30th October, 2008.
  • Relief Drive in Udalguri and Darrang: The Foundation and both its colleges had carried out a Relief Drive in the affected areas of Darrang and Udalguri on the 9th  November 2008. Students from both colleges had organised this drive in Kharupetia Higher Secondary School and Kharupetia Camp-C in Darrang and Kaziamati Camp in Udalguri. They distributed blankets, sweaters, clothes for the aged and baby food, health food and dresses & uniforms for the children.
  • Talk on Safeguard for Journalists: The Deptt. Of Journalism and Mas Comm. of Central IT College had organised a talk on “Safeguard for Journalists” on 27th November, 2008 in Guwahati Press Club. The event was addressed to the issues arising out of the brutal murder of Jagajit Saikia of Kokrajhar and K Rishikanta Singh of Imphal Free Press.
  • AIDS awareness Programme: Like every year on the 1st day of December, 2008 World AIDS Day was celebrated by the institutes under the trust by organizing a foot rally. Where more than 1000 students participate in the rally. Moreover students perform street plays in different areas of Guwahati to spread awareness on the issue.
  • Scholarship: 30 students were given free scholarship in different institutes of the Trust. The Scholarship was given to students who hail from the economic backward communities. The scholarship was extended to management, Computer science, journalism, biotechnology and School education.
  • ERDF had launched an Employment Generation Drive under the School of Career Guidanceby introducing various job-oriented courses for the educated unemployed of the region, keeping in view the role of quality training in shaping the future of the coming generations.. Various job-oriented courses have been started in the first phase of the Employment generation Drive, providing best of the best training.
  • The institutes under the foundation, regularly organizes workshops, seminars and guest lectures for their students on issues relevant to their fields of study. Below is a list of seminars organized :

Topic: National Level Seminar titled- “Biodiversity: Exploration, Conservation, Utilization of Plant Resources with Special Reference to North East India.”
This was a two day National Seminar organized by North East Biotechnological Consortium (NEBC) an R&D unit of ERDF in collaboration with Regional College of Higher Education (RCHE) an academic unit of ERDF. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. S. S. Baghel, Vice Chancellor, Assam Agriculture University.
