ERDF was conceived for
imparting top quality professional and technical education in
the fields of engineering science, management science,
information technology and computer science; applied sciences
such as biotechnology and biochemistry etc. with a view to
ensuring all round professional development of the students of
the North Eastern part of India in general and Assam &
Meghalaya in particular, keeping the interests of the deprived
sections uppermost in its priority list. In short it has made
education affordable and brought it within the reach of people
for whom educating their children was always a distant dream.
ERDF always focuses on the
empowerment of education as inscribed in its logo “empowering
education”.
Here is a chronological list
of educational initiatives taken up by the Foundation :
A Brief about the
Institutions under the Foundation:
In its ten year of
existence Central IT College (CITC) has come a long way from
the days of its inception in 2001 with only 18 students and
four computers. Today, it is a ISO 9001-2000 certified
college boasting of more than 3,000 students and 70 faculty
members. It is rated as the No. 2 SMU study centre in entire
India. It has also been selected as the Nodal Centre for the
Eastern region to conduct Biotechnology practical. Today
CITC has 6 departments i.e. Computer Science, Management
Sciences, Biotechnology, Allied Health Sciences, Journalism
& Mass Communication and Arts & Humanities
The College was
established with an aim to put a stop to the brain drain
problem in Assam and the North Eastern region. The
meritorious students of the region manage to get admitted to
good colleges in Deptt.s of their preference but it's the
average students who go out of the region searching for good
institutions imparting professional courses and as a result
shell out lakhs of rupees in the process. Imparting
professional courses at a much lesser rate minus donations &
the travel cost to other states CITC is catering to the
section of students that form the maximum percent in the
overall educational scenario of a state, which was one of
the objectives of establishing this college.
The main endeavor of the
College has always been to provide the students with
professional training and it has been successful in the
sense that the College has quite an impressive placement
record. Along with professional training the College also
involves its students in various social welfare activities
to instill in them a sense of duty towards the society

Begum Women’s College the 8th venture of ERD Foundation is
to be established at Badarpur. The college is affiliated to
Assam University, Silchar & it is operational from the
session 2015-2016.
In order to
break the barriers in female education especially for the
downtrodden rural women from minority communities the
foundation has decided to set up Khairun Nessa Begum Women’s
College. Whereas the minority women literacy rate in Assam
is only 40% and accordingly women’s participation is also
very less in higher education. This decision of the
foundation is encouraged by the recommendations made by the
Committee on Girls’ Education, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of
India.
