About ERDF


The journey of ERDF started with 1 computer and 4 students from a rented room, which later got recognized as the largest study centre in the Northeast for providing quality technical education.

Established in the year 2005, under the Chairmanship of the dynamic educational entrepreneur Mahbubul Hoque, Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF) is the largest & fastest growing educational network in the North Eastern region, catering education from KG to PG. Under its umbrella, the foundation has established two CBSE affiliated Senior Secondary Schools, one Engineering College, one Women’s College, one B. Ed College, one Law College, two Pharmacy College, one Business School, one College of Physiotherapy, one Centre for Coaching & Guidance & one University- University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya. At present, under ERDF group of institutions more than 6500 students are studying in various disciplines and around 750 human resources are engaged in the initiative of the foundation. M Hoque had a vision to spread the light of Education in the North Eastern region and he has been successful in doing so and is still striving to achieve more milestones.

ERDF is a trust under the provisions of the Indian Trust Act 1882 and is registered as per the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 (No RS/MAM/240/A-2/A-2/272 of 206) constituted by his close acquaintances. It has been also certified under section 12-A & 80-G of the Income Tax Act. The head office of the foundation is located at ERD Bhawan, Lalmati Road, Bhetapara, Guwahati-781028, Assam.

The prime vision of ERDF is to lay added emphasis on the development of the weaker sections of the society through proper education targeted towards attainment of self-reliance and self-sufficiency. Education and its application towards societal development and upliftment require proper focus on research orientation and application. Hence ERDF encompasses all such activities which establish a meaningful correlation between Education Research & Development.

ERDF has emerged as the premier educational network of NE India. Its first college, Central IT College was the second best study centre of Sikkim Manipal University in entire India. In 2007, ERDF established the Regional College of Higher Education in Guwahati, the first college affiliated to the oldest Central University of the region, the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, Meghalaya, creating a niche for itself by excelling and getting top positions in all the examinations conducted by NEHU.

With the view to provide good quality education, ERDF set up the Central Public School at Patharkandi, a rural border area of Karimganj District with CBSE affiliation. The school aims to provide quality education to the children who cannot access proper educational facilities living in the remote corners of the region. The school also aims to grant education at a considerable cost to the under- privileged children of the rural areas. The second CBSE affiliated school of ERD Foundation - Central Public School was set up in Umarpur, near the Badarpur Town with a similar objective.

ERDF established a state of the art Engineering College namely Regional Institute of Science & Technology (RIST) at 9th Mile, Meghalaya approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to NEHU, Shillong. This institute has emerged as one of the very few institutes of the region with world class infrastructure.

One of the most ambitious projects of ERDF, the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) was established in 400 acres of picturesque landscape in the Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya just one km from G S Road, Baridua, 9th mile. USTM was established under the provisions of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya Act (No.6 of 2008) enacted by Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya State. USTM is the first State Private University on Science & Technology in the entire North East India. With more than two years of focused study on the educational needs of the region by leading Academicians, Scientists and a group of Vice Chancellors and educational administrators of the region, USTM started its systematic academic process. Several courses/ programmes including Ph.D under its various Schools were introduced. The focused emerging areas of Biological Sciences, Science & Technology, Social Science & Humanities, Economics, Commerce & Business Sciences, Library Science, Education was introduced along with a number of interdisciplinary subjects were offered by Independent Centres including Centre for International Studies. Recommendations made by all statutory bodies, UGC and MHRD had been adhered to by USTM. The campus is located about 85 kms from Shillong, the Capital of Meghalaya and 6 kms from Dispur, the Capital of Assam. It is well connected by Rail and Air which is only 15 kms from Guwahati Railway Station and 35 kms from Guwahati International Airport.

Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Centre for Coaching and Guidance (FACC) and "HOQUE 20" are the latest ventures of ERD Foundation towards capacity building of our young graduates aspiring for IAS, GATE, NET and other competitive examinations conducted by UPSC and other government agencies.

The objective of catering to women’s education was also achieved by the establishment of Khairun Nessa Begum Women's College at Srigouri, Badarpur in Karimganj Distict of Assam. The college is affiliated to Assam University, Silchar. Recently, the college has also got approval to start honours courses in Political Science, English, Economics, History, Bengali.

For initiating different R&D activities ERDF signed MoUs with different national & international organizations such as Tezpur University, Tezpur, NIT Silchar, Jamia Millia Islamia, JNU, New Delhi, Starmass Environment Technologies Corporation, USA; Hi-Tech Education Centre, Ireland; Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and NIIT Ltd and many more organisations. Collaborations with other national & international organizations & Universities are also under process.

The Annuals events organized by ERD Foundation at the USTM campus are North East College Principals Conclave (NCPC), North East Teachers Congress (NETC), North East Graduate Congress (NEGC), Junior College Principals Meet (JCPM), Orientation Programme, Independence Day, Republic Day, NSS Foundation Day, National Education Day, National Technology Day, National Science Day, World Environment Day, World Biodiversity Week, World Social Work Day, World Cancer Day, World Aids Day, World Voluntary Blood Donation Day, International Woman’s Day, International Day for the Girl Child, World Science Week for Peace & Development, Varsity Week, Freshers’ Social, Farewell of Outgoing Batch, National Unity Day, National Rededication Day, National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness Week, Constitution Day, Teachers Day, World Diabetes Day.

ERD foundation has also different publications like Journals, Souvenirs, Newsletters and Magazines which are released from time to time.

ERDF established a Centre for Educational Rehabilitation to shelter different strife affected students irrespective of caste or community to bring peace, unity and harmony through Education. Out of total 14000 affected students of BTAD violence, more than 400 students were rehabilitated in the first phase by adopting them in the residential schools under the Foundation for free education and also by different institutions. More than 115 higher educational students were offered scholarships and around 2000 affected students were adopted in the subsequent academic session outside the state.

Apart from these, the foundation is active in organizing and carrying out lots of other welfare activities like Free education to poor meritorious students, Scholarships, Endowment Funds, Fellowships, Emergency treatment & medical assistance for poor, Interest free Loans, Awareness Campaigns & rallies/street plays, Relief drives, All religion prayer meetings etc.
